Lookout Mtn Maternity Session
This little family reached out to me the night before in desperate search of a photographer for their maternity session after theirs unexpectedly cancelled. They had to do it during the day, so I made sure to find a location with plenty of tree coverage to avoid the harsh sunlights and overcasted shadows from that.
We met at Windy Saddle Point in Golden, CO but decided to make our way over to the lookout mountain park area after a few scenic photos of the valley between the mountains. Since the trails were still a little icy with it being the very beginning of spring, the park area worked a lot better since it had more flat area and space to work with along with the tree coverage.
This maternity session with their toddler was a perfect way to commemorate their last few days as a family of 3 before they welcome their baby girl and officially become a family of 4.
Lookout Mountain is considered to be a Jeff Co Property and does require a permit to shoot here, which I obtain an annual one at no additional charge to my clients.
Lookout mountain is especially important to me because this is where my grandfather, Ray Bolton, made a whole name for himself as a cyclist. He was well known to everyone on the mountain as 3-a-day-ray because he was known for ridding up that mountain multiple times a day, always trying to beat his record, whether it was snow, wind, or rain—he was always there riding his bike. He has a chair up at a cafe + gift shop on the mountain with his name engraved into a plaque and his friends were trying to get his bike up in the lookout mountain museum. He was truly a legend there and I definitely could feel his spirit with me as I drove around that area and passed other fellow bikers.
